Wouldn’t be nice to live your life knowing where you are headed? or at least have a sense of direction on how to reach your goals? Having a professional coach isn’t a far stretch for answering yes to these questions. Professional coaching is designed to increase your human potential, personal growth and leadership qualities. Procrastinating on reaching a goal, or letting time go by are some of the main factors that stop people when deciding to hire a coach. There is also the time and cost investment, or the fear to succeed beyond your goals. You probably know that you want to change your life, but the question is if you feel you can actually do it. Investing in yourself is a decision that takes place at some point in your life when you really want it. A “no” to making changes, is a “no” to you and your dreams.
How do you know if it is the right time to hire a coach? How could you trust that you will be able to receive the benefits and the return on investment? Well, talk to the coaches you are considering, read about their background and consider their experience, their approach and style. They will become an important part of your success, so make sure your styles are compatible.
Most people have a general idea of what they want to do, although they don’t have a clear perspective of how to get there from where they are currently at. A good coach will help you discover your calling and set you up with a sustainable and feasible plan to give you back the control of your future.
Life happens and changes take place, at work, at school, in your relationship, in your family. Any of these changes will trigger anxiety and uncertainty on how to address them. You may find yourself going over and over of what you should do, but then change your mind. You need a different perspective that perhaps your friends and family are unable to provide. This is the perfect time to talk to a coach.
Most clients at some point experience this stage, known as the “impostor syndrome.” They feel like they are not qualified, and their confidence erodes. Just the way you can build your confidence, it could also get eroded. The major transformation in this stage takes place when we can face some of the main grief, trauma or sadness caused by events in our past. A qualified coach can help you identify them, and guide you through to overcome them and let them go.
We all can relate to indulging in bad habits that become part of our lives, and we become unaware of them at times. Then when we want to change them, our lack of motivation or unwillingness to step out of our comfort zone get in the way. You lack the true commitment to making your dreams a reality and you don’t know how to get on the right track. You lack the true commitment, but you are not aware of it. The key is developing the right mindset.
You may be having a successful life in some aspects, but you may still feel unfulfilled. You may need to re-ignite and perhaps re-align your value system that evolved with you. Perhaps you need a restart button to see life from a different perspective, and work towards a life what resonates with your calling and brings you joy. A coach will bring awareness and clarity on what matters to you, and it will help you to reassess your life purpose.
This could be defined in different ways: becoming a better leader, seeking a promotion or career change, experiencing relationship challenges, need to carve time for self reflection, can’t see your blind spots. You may not be able to point out exactly what it is, but either your personal or professional life is not what you want. A good coach will help you evaluate what is causing that feeling, and determine how some of those challenges could be interrelated and colliding with your limiting beliefs.
Even if only one of the above reasons resonated with you, there could be unlimited benefits that could change your life. You may choose to continue analyzing and understanding what you really want to do. This is perfectly fine if you are willing to invest the time on reading books, or choosing a mentor, or hire other professionals to help you obtain the skills or knowledge you think you need. What I would say is that I did that. I read many books and applied the learnings on my own. I achieved some of my goals, but kept on failing on others because I kept on making the same mistakes. In the words of Albert Einstein, “Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.” That’s when I realized I needed a new approach and decided to invest on myself to reach my goals. A new level of thought emerged for me after experiencing coaching that transformed me forever. I started to positively create a sustainable mindset that catapulted me into a new and exciting life. This can happen to you as well.
I wish I could have discovered coaching earlier in my career, although never is too late. Stepping into our power and do the things that speak to us at a deeper level is really priceless. Why waste even more time pondering and analyzing your wants and goals, when you can say yes to the transformation that awaits you?
